A tourist gazes on the carved reliefs
And marvels at the craftsmanship and style
He studies flying buttresses and tiles
Amazed, he stands admiring the motif

The sacraments mean nothing in his sight
The purpose of communion leaves him dry
The building is as sacred as Versailles
Accomplishments of man are his delight

The image of the Christ peers from above
The Master painter planned His life and frame
He chose the brutal strokes to take our blame
The painting shows the sacrifice of love

Don’t let me be a tourist passing blind
Forgetting Your great love for all mankind
