CODE OF SILENCE

Amedeo_Modigliani_-_Portrait_of_Juan_Gris
Painting by Modigliani

Past behind
He shut the door
And locked it
Tight
Memories
Buried
Out of sight
Shame
Encased
But not
Erased
Even when
He found The Light

The Code
He knew
“Don’t you tell”
Stole his heart
Just like a spell
All abuse
That broke his will
Bruised his flesh
And bound him still
For no one knew
And who would care
What was to gain
If he would share

Though now
Mid-age
A fragile sage
Feeling
His silence
Was still a cage
So he spoke the word
Of what had been
Exposing sins
Of older men
Cutting free
The Code at last
And broke the chains
That kept his past

Free in Christ
He walked away
Free he lives
A brand new day

A true story
